The Future of Countryside Hospitality

~ Wednesday 17 June 2026 ~

The best hospitality is not really about thread counts or perfectly styled interiors, although those things certainly help. It is about how a place makes you feel. Well fed. Properly rested. Inspired. And a little less tethered to your phone. At Newsham, we are creating a collection of places and experiences where great food, thoughtful design, memorable events and everything we love about the countryside come together in a way that feels both special and entirely natural.

More Than Hospitality

Places That Leave You Feeling Better Than When You Arrived

For years, hospitality has often been judged by the most obvious details: comfortable beds, beautiful interiors and bathrooms you wish you could recreate at home.

And while we are very much in favour of all three, the experiences that stay with us tend to be memorable for a different reason.

They make us feel better.

Better fed. Better rested. A little more connected to the people around us and a little less distracted by everything waiting on our phones.

Whether you are joining us for a wedding, an overnight stay or one of our events, what people remember most is how a place made them feel.

That is the thinking behind Newsham.

Will explains, “We are creating a collection of places and experiences rooted in Thirsk. From weddings and events at Thirsk Lodge Barns, seasonal food from Peckish, stays at 35 Kirkgate and, in time, Manor Farm and Restaurant - everything is connected by a belief that some of the best moments in life happen around the table, in the countryside and in good company.”

It is there when lunch stretches on longer than expected.

When the vegetables on your plate taste as though they were picked that morning (because they were).

When you spend more time outdoors and less time checking emails.

When a proper cup of Yorkshire tea solves more problems than it probably should.

Some people will come to celebrate a wedding. Others will join us for supper, stay for the weekend or attend one of our events.

In time, Manor Farm and Restaurant will offer another way to experience Newsham - a place where everything comes together in a way that feels warm, welcoming and genuinely restorative.

No pressure. No need to plunge into freezing water before breakfast - unless you are particularly enthusiastic.

Just great people, a homely environment, delicious food and experiences that help you feel a little lighter and calmer than when you arrived.

Because ultimately, the future of countryside hospitality is not about offering more. It is about creating places people genuinely love spending time in.

Places that remind us how good life can feel when the pace slows down.
